That is still plenty of power for this price range especially with the dsp built in. You can probably fudge a 14 or 15hz hpf with it but what sucks is you eat up most of your eq bands and processing just doing that. I would also like to see how the sub 20hz performance is with these.
Just follow the directions when installing the Midi-Ox software on your computer. Step 4: Configure the MIDI-OX software. ( a) After the software is installed, execute the Midi-Ox program and do the following: Click O ptions > MIDI Devices. You will see 4 windows labeled: MIDI Inputs, MIDI Outputs, Port Mapping and Port Map Objects. Select your MIDI device in the MIDI Inputs windows so that it shows up in the Port Map Objects window. Select your MIDI device in the MIDI Outputs window so that it shows up in the Port Mapping window. If your see ' 401 UART' instead of ' MIDI' on the device name, this is fine as it is another designator for MIDI naming.
Now I just need a way to get that data cable 150' feet long for my live sound gigs. Anyone know where I can find a 150' serial cable?
Hindi serial shararat. I don't actually plan to run subs with it (bi amped pa mids and highs) so it doesn't matter a whole lot for me. I'm thinking a full barrage of testing is the only way were going answers to these questions. Just as FOH pointed out instead of eating up the EQ resources of these amps to get a HP filter out of them - one could implement a MIC2200 for said duties instead of fudging, but thats certainly a moot point if like bosso points out - they already have a built in roll off like the IPR's in the middle teens. Obviously Berry had in pro audio in mind with their products and is not really all that concerned with us retards in the DIY community plumbing the depths of bass here. I'm going to try and get my buddy to snatch one of these 6000's up to run a single LMS per channel and take some raw output measurements of his low end response before and after the swap with my Crest 8002.
It will likely outlive me, but it is so slow you can almost count the cpu cycles on your fingers. And finding a new laptop with a serial port, RS232 or RS485, is a quest even someone willing to tilt at windmills might shy away from. Actually, I found the display to be as good as the one on the DRPA I have rented. It was easier to figure out the DCX than the DRPA (for me), even with reading the manual a lot less - how they organized functions, and the menu structure, was very well done. Not arguing - the laptop is a lot more convenient, and presents stuff in a much better way.
The ULTRADRIVE PRO DCX2496 is the answer to making your venue sound like it was tuned by the pros. Over the past years the DCX2496 has become an industry standard and several hundred thousand units have been employed in high-end touring as well as install applications. The DCX2496 is the perfect way to manage a multi-speaker sound system in any sized venue – from cinema to sanctuary to concert hall. Featuring 2 inputs, 6 outputs and 24-bit/96 kHz high-end AD/DA converters, this state-of-the-art processor will take your system to the next level and beyond. Speaker protection and processing are the cornerstones for any speaker management system. The DCX2496 features precise dynamic EQs for level-dependent equalization, plus extremely musical parametric EQs that can be applied to all I/O for high-precision signal sculpting. 6 outputs with individual crossover filters, including your choice of Butterworth, Bessel and Linkwitz-Riley designs, each with selectable roll-off characteristics from 6 to 48 dB/octave – perfect for optimizing any 2, 3, or 4-way system.
2) Make sure you do not have any 'filters' (e.g. 'running status', 'sysex', etc.) set on your MIDI interface or MIDI OX (default on MIDI OX should be fine).
If you are a casual operator not needing any intense or surgical type processing, the 2496 will probably be overkill for you, even though you could still benefit from it. However, if you need the ultimate in EQ and dynamic processing for Mid-Fi to Hi-Fi SSB and/or AM audio, then the DEQ2496 is a jewel for the price. The menu system is very rich and takes a little time to master. This page was developed to assist in initial setup of the 2496.
3) Try using the opposite MIDI DIN cable connector feeding the 2496 input. I had one person report that his cables were marked the opposite as cables made by most other manufacturers, so it is worth a try. 4) It is possible, that your sound card may not be MIDI compatible. If you can not get step 4 above configured, then you may need to try it on another computer or sound card. 5) If you have a computer with an embedded sound card. On the motherboard, the MIDI ports may be disabled in your CMOS setup. Reboot your computer and bring up the CMOS setup (F1 or ESC usually) and turn ON the MIDI port.
Finally, our “Zero”-attack limiters provide the ultimate in loudspeaker protection on all output channels. In addition to the plethora of EQ filter and crossover options, the DCX2496 offers adjustable delays for all I/O, allowing you to either manually, or automatically correct for room temperature, phase and arrival time differences in order to perfectly configure your delay-line speakers. A PCMCIA slot is provided for storing up to 60 user-defined presets internally, or optionally via your PC for instant recall when moving between multiple venues.

Yeah, I used to code serial port stuff in assembler, up to and including terminal emulators, so I have an appreciation of how much can be involved. That was so long ago, it is scarey.I recall the huge waves created when the 16550 was first instroduced. No idea if they still exist, but there used to be amps for serial lines. These days, why not go serial to USB and then wireless? Then again, in a live sound situation, there is likely so much wireless stuff and unrelated RFI, that this might not be a reliable solution.

The 2496 should display a message informing you that it is waiting for the upgrade transfer. Step 7: Execute the transfer. In the MIDI-OX program, select A ctions > Se nd > S ysEx File. Navigate to the directory ('Look In' dialog box) where you downloaded and saved your '.syx' file and double-click that file. You should see a message on the 2496 display indicating the transfer progress in pages or 'blocks' uploaded. This process will take about 5 minutes to complete.

As for running it 150', Paul's suggestion of using XLR surprises me. Sounds like there is no hardware flow control in the DCX's serial ports at all. Given that it runs at 115kBps, and given that I never had to make any adjustments to the serial port on my old Toshiba to get the two talking, they seems to have done a great job of writing the serial drivers. Seriously though, I do plan to get one as soon as they are available. I can test whatever I can once it arrives. It'll be nice to compare it to the Crest 8002 I'm borrowing now (thanks again Warp!).
Only long term problem is that I need to replace my ancient laptop. It will likely outlive me, but it is so slow you can almost count the cpu cycles on your fingers. Instructions on how update the 2496 via a midi transfer is available on the ' section on the bottom of this page. The DEQ2496 may come loaded with version 1.2b or 1.3 which will still work just fine if you do not want to upgrade. Menus and Setup The main menus are accessed by pressing one of the 9 buttons on the right side of the 2496. First, you should set the rear-panel ' MAX' switch to a level of +22 dBu. (Level buttons pressed 'IN') This establishes an extra +10dBu of maximum gain capability and will allow a little more 'headroom' for signal peaks. UTILITY Menu Pages 1, 2 & 3 Pressing the UTILITY button will display one of three 'PAGES' of menus.
