The serial number is often below a QR Code or begins with S/N. Here are a few examples of what this will look like: Elite 800: Elite 800X: Elite Pro: Stealth 600 For Xbox One: Stealth 600 For PS4/PS4 Pro: Stealth 700 For Xbox One: Stealth 700 for PS4/Pro: Recon 150: Recon 60P: Stealth 400/500P: PX22, Z22, PX51, XP510, Z300: XP Seven, Z Seven, M Seven, Sierra: XLa, PLa, ZLa, NLa: Note for: the Serial Number can be found on the back of the in-line volume control.

The mods alone cost more then the amp itself of which not many Stratus owners can afford or bother with having modded. Now thats the way fuel HD800's! Did you try balanced drive? Western Electric 274B in place of the 5U4G rectifier with some slight mods, EML 2A3 Mesh plate (but I did role with some rare smoked glass RCA monoplates that added a bit more warmth and bass to the HD800's, I jizzed my pants on some electronica and piano sonata tracks) and Svetlana 6N1P-Vi millspec driver tube. I did change the source a few times and the Lampizator made a world difference to the sound.

Go for the newer ones. Measurements for the new 3xxxx digit serial number units show some slight subtle variance with the hot treble peak (but still no doubt a bright sounding headphone) compared to the older units (in a good way).

Last week, I interviewed patrons in a noisy pub, Led Zeppelin was blaring in the background. When I cut up the audio for the story, it was barely there. The audio came out fantastic.

Sound interesting indeed. Are the mods being done locally? For Lampizator, I've heard lv 3 gen 4 and lv4 gen 4. They sound enjoyable and musical for sure.

The best setup for the HD800's I've heard to date with nothing besting it so far is (my old pair from purrin 103xx serial number if I remember correctly) + loaned Manley Neo Classic 300b preamp with headphone out/modded DNA Stratus + custom modded Lampizator Gen3 Level 4 with Dueland Cast and V-Cap coupling/bypass caps. I have not heard any solid state amplifications as of late that brings out the best of the HD800 with musicality. Purrin has always raved so hard about Eddie Current range of amp's so I might give them a try when I get a chance. You know I was curious once on the Soundmagic HP200, so many people raved about it on head-fi about it being a poor mans HD650, heh guess always take head-fi impressions with a grain of salt. I just bought my own just in case the station's were all checked out so I'll never be without my MD 46. Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from Very pleased with this purchase I use this mic to gather postgame interviews following baseball games, mostly in the clubhouses and connected to a Marantz PMD620 recorder. Overall the audio quality comes out great for broadcast - there is a bit more handling noise than I prefer, but I suspect this will go away as I learn to handle it properly. I also like that it's a bit longer than standard mics, although there is a bit of a trade-off if you have to hold it out to gather audio at arm's reach. It seems to have good rejection of ambient noise while being able to collect quality audio when focused on the subject.

I still have a preference for tubes with the HD800 however but like the convenience of the Aurix with it's pass though feature. I just bought a pair of Hifiman HE-6 and the sound of these through the speaker taps on a class A solid state is something in the region of sublime:-) - still not going to sell the HD800 though:-).

Don't worry though; the material can stretch enough to add and remove the ear pads without tearing the fabric so long as you exercise a little bit of caution. HOW TO REPLACE THE EAR PADS: To put the ear pad back in place, you should first line up the cloth on one side of the ear pad by just sliding the ear pad up. The cloth should slip into the groove or over the lip pretty easily. Once you have the lip part of the way on, you can just slip a finger around the cloth ring to slide it all into the plastic groove If it is almost all in place, but you are having trouble with just that last little bit, try gently rotating the ear pad. This will usually pull everything into place. On some of our headsets, you may need to pull the cloth out on top to get it in place.

Or Or if you are looking at amps as well research some amps that don't employ negative feedback and the 5-6 peak and the peaky treble will magically go away with no mods at all:-) - apparently it's more to do with the headphones being brutally revealing of the source (amp) design than a fault with the headphone. I`ve tried my old hd800s on amps with nfb and gfb didn`t make any difference to the sound except tube rollig and a more analog sounding source.

Measurements for the new 3xxxx digit serial number units show some slight subtle variance with the hot treble peak (but still no doubt a bright sounding headphone) compared to the older units (in a good way). You can still do the Anaxmod to tame the 5-6k peak if your ears are sensitive to it. Don't bother spending money on older units unless it's priced half of what a new HD800 goes for ($1500 MSRP) and is not abused in excellent to mint condition. The unit is actually in 9000's serial number. And priced a tad above half the retail. Apparently its a demo model from addicted to audio and comes with warranty etc.

Designed to have low handling and wind noise, and to eliminate vocal popping, this microphone gives the ENG team an ideal interview tool. Rated 5 out of 5 by Jrue from The best ENG mic there is I teach at a journalism school and this is downright the best ENG microphone in the industry. This thing is like a rock.

The main thing buying a used pair of HD800 is they sound good and look clean. Many guys sell them before break in. They sound awesome once finally broken in with a great source and amp. Like many revealing speakers if you feed them glare it will sound nasty in a way less resolving gear just cant reveal. Dont buy HD800 unless youve got vinyl or a great DAC and can afford a very good headphone amp. The HD800 have high impedance and mate very well with a tubed headamp. Being so transparent they reveal all the goodness of a DHT amp.

I did change the source a few times and the Lampizator made a world difference to the sound. I didn't perform the mods but the stock Jensen caps where replaced with V-Cap's and the smaller electrolytic's with nos Siemens 4 pole HV caps. Pot was changed to the best pot available the Alps RK50 and wiring changed to Audio Consulting pure silver wire with cloth protective sleeve. The mods alone cost more then the amp itself of which not many Stratus owners can afford or bother with having modded.
